马里兰大学孔子学院

　　马里兰大学孔子学院是北美第一家孔子学院，中美双方就其成立于2004年11月17日签署协议，合作双方是马里兰大学和天津南开大学。双方设有理事会，由美方院长和中方院长共同管理。

　　2005年3月8日正式招生开课。该院立足校园，面向社会，为大华府地区开设各类汉语和中华文化课程，培训汉语教师，举办形式多样的文化活动，以促进中国传统文化在该地区的传播，增强中美两国人民之间的互相了解，使其成为当地各界人士进行中美文化交流的一个场所。2008年，该院通过开展各类汉语教学和8期汉语师资培训、举办20余次中国文化讲座、研讨会等活动以及HSK汉语水平考试，引起各界的关注，如今在大华府地区已经成为一个重要的中华语言文化传播的符号。

　　马里兰孔子学院将加大工作力度，在教学上走出校园，以不断扩大孔子学院的影响。

　　The Confucius Institute at the University of Maryland (CIM) was founded on November 17, 2004 and is the first Confucius Institute in the world. CIM is cooperating with Nankai University of Tianjin, China.

Since autumn 2005, CIM has offered beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes in Chinese language, and provides a 10-12 week term in each. In this way, the CIM also provides Chinese language learning opportunities for a variety of organizations in the nearby Washington, D.C., area, such as those in politics, economics, legal affairs, and journalism. CIM serves as a test-site for the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi, or HSK; one of only two such sites on the East Coast at present. CIM also forged several collaborative agreements with local Chinese schools that provide Chinese classes to heritage learners, and trained more than 200 Chinese teachers in 9 different locations, in order to expand the sphere of influence of the Hanban-approved curriculum.

　　The Confucius Institute at Maryland looks forward to providing a wide range of Chinese language and culture-based activities, and professional services in testing and training, to the Washington D.C. area and beyond.
